How To Get Smooth Skin

Updated: Dec 8, 2022

Summer months bring us out in fewer layers of clothing and it’s fairly common to see bumpy skin, especially on the upper arms and backs of thighs. This is a condition known as keratosis pilaris. It is those little goosebumps on the skin which don’t go away, sometimes accompanied with roughness and itchiness and, in some people the prominent follicles stand out red against the surrounding skin.

Dr Des Fernandes, creator of Environ says that the solution is to use a neutralised lactic acid based product to increase hydration as well as to exfoliate the area. Even if you don’t have keratosis pilaris, dry, flaky or rough skin will also benefit from this treatment.

Safe and gentle, the AVST Derma-Lac Lotion contains neutralised lactic acid (a natural AHA derived from fermented sugar) to assist the normal exfoliation and refine congested or dry skin. It helps to clear the skin by gently dissolving away the dead skin flakes which block the follicles in keratosis pilaris and also assists when ingrown hairs are a problem. The preservative and fragrance free lotion also helps to maintain hydration by compacting the skin's outer layer. This makes it useful for people with allergic, flaky skin and to reduce dryness or signs of sun damage across the body.

Derma-Lac Lotion is particularly effective for treating excessive sun damage when used in conjunction with the EssentiA vitamin A enriched body oil. Using lactic acid together with vitamin A enables the vitamins to penetrate more effectively. You could continue to use the Hydrating lotion on its own but you will get the maximum benefit by combining it with vitamin A. Conversely, if your skin is thick, the combination with vitamin A can be introduced earlier than 1 month.

For a gentler and more luxurious alternative to Environ, there is the Enriched Body Lotion from Epionce. Packed with botanical extracts such as date, apple, meadowfoam, flax, rosehip and avocado, this lotion does a pretty good job of sorting out dry and rough patches of skin. It transforms them into soft, smooth touchable areas and tackles the red bumps too. Excellent for the hands too if you don't like your creams too rich.

Don't over-do the slathering on. Because the formulations are very concentrated, a little goes a long way.
